Erosion Control

Soil erosion can threaten your project and our environment. We help customers’ meet or exceed environmental objectives and regulations. The Best Management Practices (BMP’s) we use assures groundcover, which is the most important factor in terms of preventing erosion.

The United States Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) regulations administered by the Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) mandate that all reasonable steps be taken to protect surface and ground water from impacts of land disturbing activities. The regulations affect any construction site one acre and larger.

GT Hydro Seed provides permanent solutions of our easily erodible soils. We can quickly solve your problems with proven techniques and materials.

Hydra CX2 - The Next Generation of Erosion Control Products

Hydra CX2 is a cost effective hydraulically applied erosion control that protects against soil and seed loss from heavy rain and wind-even before germination; then effectively establishes permanent vegetation.

Hydra CX2 can be used for almost any slope erosion control situation. It’s especially ideal for hard-to-reach areas, uneven surfaces, steep slopes (2:1 and 1:1), and environmentally sensitive projects.

Hydra CX2 is 100% natural-cotton-fiber that uses the inherent qualities of cotton-absorbency, porous and natural biodegradability to provide "exceptional, high-performance slope erosion control that is 99.6% effective in ASTM large-scale slope testing."* The high cotton content retains moisture better than wood or paper mulch, which means less watering, and use of water resources, especially during water use restriction times.

Hydra CX2  has been approved by the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) for use in state erosion control projects. It has been honored by Better Roads Magazine as one of the top 50 Rollouts for 2007.

Hydra CX2 is grown, manufactured and university tested right here in Alabama!

Erosion Control Blankets

ECB’s are used for steep slopes or high water flow areas. The two types are temporary and permanent turf reinforcement.  We use North America Green rolled erosion control products but can install any blanket your specifications call for. These materials are great to hold your soil in place until the vegetation can be established. Temporary blankets provide immediate erosion protection and assist vegetative establishment. They then degrade into the soil after the plants are established. We have blankets that can last 45 days, to longer term that can last 36 months. Permanent turf reinforcement mats (TRM’s) provide long-term erosion protection and assist vegetative establishment while permanently reinforcing vegetation. TRM’s are used in high flow channels, stream banks, shorelines or critical steep slopes.  They are very cost effective compared to the use of rock riprap or concrete and what is nice is you can maintain the area (mowing etc.).  North American Green ECB’s have the Ultimate Assurance Guarantee, for more information and actual guarantee details go to www.nagreen.com/guarantee

*ASTM D 6459: Standard Test Method for Determination of Erosion Control Blanket (ECB) Performance in Protecting Hillslopes from Rainfall-Induced Erosion

The modification of this test method evaluated the ability of HydraCX2 to protect a slope from rainfall-induced erosion by utilizing full-scale testing procedures rather than bench-scale testing procedures. The full-scale testing procedures were intended to mimic conditions that are typical for final earthwork conditions, but prior to any establishment of vegetation. The test method provided a comparative evaluation of the product to baseline bare-soil conditions under a controlled and documented environment.

An earthen embankment was constructed using conventional earthwork procedures to create a plot surface of 3H:1V that was 40 feet in length and 8 feet in width. Testing was performed for three separate, 20-minute durations at target intensities of 2 inches per hour, 4 inches per hour, and 6 inches per hour, respectively. (Actual intensities in HydraCX2 testing exceeded these target intensities. See table.) A C Factor, or Cover Factor, indicates the product’s performance capabilities, and was calibrated from the test data by comparing the soil loss in a bare-soil scenario to the soil loss in a protected-soil scenario.
