What is Hydroseeding or Hydromulching?

Hydroseeding is a technically proven and one of the most widely used methods of planting commercial grass projects like subdivisions, parks, schools, golf courses, landfills, dam sites and along the sides of highways. Hydroseeding is not new, it has been used around the world for better than 50 years. Though the process is not new, the new advancements in the materials we use are amazing.

Hydroseeding, or in some parts of the country called Hydro mulching, is a mixture of water, mulch, seed, and tackifing agents. We can also add fertilizers, lime, organic biostimulants for fast growth, and copolymers for water retention. It is all mixed in our large hydroseeding unit then applied hydraulically (sprayed) on the ground.

Hydroseeding creates an ideal microenvironment for germinating seed. After the short period it takes to establish, the hydroseeded area is deeper rooted and healthier than a standard sodded area.

We can plant almost any type of grass. In this part of the country, your lawn grasses are warm season types such as Bermuda’s, centipede and zoysia. We get allot of calls for St. Augustine, this is a vegetative type grass that must be sodded or sprigged. There are programs trying to develop a viable seed but it is not available yet. For commercial and residential grassing or erosion control, we can use your specifications or recommend what will work in your situation year round.

Hydroseeding is very cost effective compared to other methods of establishing grass. As we like to say, hydroseeding is a fraction of the price of sod. For example, a square foot of sod installed in this area costs from .25 cents on up to .45 cents a square foot. We can save you one-half to two-thirds the cost of installed sod. Our hydroseeding rates are from .06 to .12 cents per square foot, depending on the size of the area and type of seed planted. For larger areas, generally more than an acre and large scale commercial erosion control projects are rates are even better giving you more value of your construction dollars. Our bids are very competitive.
